Henry is the smartest and sharpest playwright of his generation. His wife, Charlotte, an actress, has been appearing in a play by Henry about a couple whose marriage is on the verge of collapse. Max, her leading man, is also married to an actress, Annie. When Henry’s affair with Annie threatens to destroy his own marriage, he realises life has started imitating art. But are they really in love? Is it the real thing?

First staged in 1982, The Real Thing combines the intellectual and dazzling wordplay of Stoppard at his most witty with some of his most tender and touching writing. A clever, poignant and entertaining examination of infidelity, The Real Thing is a multi award-winning modern classic.

Soloists from the London Philharmonic play Dvorak's String Quartet and the Schubert Octet.

Chamber music can be subtle, and it can be sublime. But sometimes, it’s just about a group of musicians getting together and simply having fun. Dvorák’s String Sextet is sunny, songful and packed with Bohemian folk-rhythms, all exactly as enjoyable as you’d expect from the composer of the ‘New World’ Symphony. Schubert, meanwhile, wrote his Octet while he was on holiday: a cheerful cavalcade of love songs, hunting horns, musical jokes and operetta hits, all crammed into six exuberant movements that bubble with inspiration and joy. The music of friends: a concert to enjoy.

‘There is a way to be good again’

Following an outstanding West End run, this unforgettable theatrical tour de force comes to venues around the UK.

Based on Khaled Hosseini’s international bestselling novel, this haunting tale of friendship which spans cultures and continents, follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

Afghanistan is a divided country on the verge of war and two childhood friends are about to be torn apart. It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul and the skies are full of the excitement and joy of a kite flying tournament. But neither Hassan nor Amir can foresee the terrible incident which will shatter their lives forever.

A warrant is issued for the arrest of Chilean senator Pablo Neruda. Attempting to flee the country, he is pursued by a dashing but inept detective. The film is as much a celebration of the medium as the man, morphing from noir to Hitchcockian chase to farce to western.

Events are relayed with lashings of humour and romance, the sumptuous staging and showy camera work fitting the flamboyant protagonist who's ill-suited to slumming it as a fugitive in the shadows. In fact, this man of noble principles and notable creativity is shown to be something of a scoundrel. An imaginative, unforgettable film.

Tickets £5 at the door. Cert 15.

This charming comedy combines endearing characters with generous helpings of deadpan humour. It tells the story of Ricky Baker, a 13-year-old delinquent in New Zealand, who ventures into the wilderness to avoid juvenile detention. He is tracked down by his foster uncle, Hector, a grumpy, taciturn mountain man who knows how to survive in the bush. The two of them are forced to become fugitives, as Ricky's disappearance causes a national manhunt. As they try to stay one step ahead of the authorities, they form a delightful double act, creating a mismatched duo who are utterly joyous to watch. Don’t miss it.

Gertrude Lowthian Bell, sometimes called 'the female Lawrence of Arabia', was a British adventurer, archaeologist and political power-house. Recruited by the British Military Intelligence after World War I, she played a significant role in British imperial policy-making in the Middle East, notably Iraq.

Voiced and executive-produced by Tilda Swinton, the film chronicles Bell’s journey into the uncharted Arabian desert and all-male halls of colonial power with never-seen-before archival footage of the region shot a century ago. The film takes us into a past that is eerily current.

Tickets: £5 on the door. Cert PG.
